Ending the Year on a Positive Note!

Ending the Year on a Positive Note!

There is only one month left in 2021! No matter how the year has been for you so far, there’s still time to finish strong. I think this is a great list of 11 things you can do to help you feel good about the year that is passing, and the new year that is coming. Here are the top three suggestions from that list:

1) Review the year that is about to end and write down some good things that happened to you. You will be surprised just how much goodness and happiness you have actually had this year!

2) Share and celebrate your successes. This self acknowledgement and appreciation will be a great platform for the New Year.

3) Send greetings of appreciation and thanks to people who have helped make this year special for you.  Express gratitude for your past alliances and at the same time, forge stronger friendships for the future.

I know that when I start writing my list for number one, the publication of GetReal, GetGOING: The Definitive Roadmap to Starting the Private Practice of Your Dreams is going to be right at the top! Writing, designing and releasing this book was a multi-year process. There were moments I thought it might never be done! Now that it is, I’ve been doing a pretty good job of sharing the good news and thanking the many people who helped along the way — but I don’t mind doing one more round of both before the year ends!

It makes me happy to think that GetReal, GetGOING will help emerging therapists by providing nuts and bolts advice along their journey from graduation to opening the doors of their private practices!

And I’ve got plans for the book in 2022 as well — but I’m not thinking about those yet, because the fourth item on the article’s list advises:

4) Review your current to do list for work. Eliminate as many tasks as you can without doing them. Then choose just one task and get it done before the end of the year. And finally throw away your unfinished list and don’t write another one until next year!

I might have to wait a few more weeks before I throw away my list, but I like the sentiment! Here’s a couple more things the article advises we do before the end of the year:

5) Finish off unresolved matters. Look at completing any small unfinished and bothersome tasks around the house, in order to make sure that these things do not play on your mind early in the New Year.

6) Do something new that you’ve never done before.  For example, visit a museum you’ve never been to before, take a city tour guide or dine in a restaurant you would have never thought of trying. End the year in the spirit of childlike curiosity!

7) Finally, rest, relax and recharge before the New Year kicks in! it is important to take it easy now for a day or two during the holidays and really do nothing. Sleep in all day, or just laze about in front of the TV.

No matter how the year ends for you, just remember that it has been a great year and next year will be even better!
